is under way in two northern california cities. the california highway patrol is providing extra officers to oakland and stockton. chp officers will be in oakland two days a week at no cost to the city. help from the chp will allow the city's police department to increase patrols in high crime areas. >> the program is set to run for at least the next three months. >>> residence in fairfield are helping police search for a couple accused of stealing mail. one man set up a surveillance camera and put the red flag up on his mailbox. the video shows an altima pulling up in broad daylight and a woman gets out and grabbed the mail. one victim said she had a check stolen which was copied and turned into fake payments. >>> a new timeline out from the u.s. officials about just how long it took for help to arrive at that u.s. consulate in benghazi, libya. intelligence officials say cia officers went to the aid of state department staff in benghazi less than 25 minutes after the first call came in for help. timeline appears to be an effort to rebut a fox news report that claims the cia told its pers

people at the university of southern california. campus police say two men were arguing at about 11:30 last night when one pulled a gun and opened fire. one man was critically wounded three bystanders were also wounded with nonlife- threatening injuries. none of the people involved was usc students. >>> not far from there, three people were injured in hollywood when shots were fired into a halloween crowd. los angeles police say three people were taken to hospitals one of them a 17-year-old who is critically injured with gunshot wounds to the chest and leg. at least three men were taken into custody. >>> investigators are looking into the death of a man who was shot at an oakland cell phone store last night at the metro pcs store on international boulevard. investigators believe it was connected to a robbery attempt. but they are not releasing any more information. >>> san francisco police hope some new video will lead them to a guy behind a bus burning a few nights ago. cbs 5 reporter anne makovec with how social media led them to another vandalism suspectly. suspect and police hop

for rain, fairly quiet but in far northern california it's moving in associated with the low that's starting to slide down the coastline bringing with it a chance of rain. partly cloudy skies outside right now. it's a little chilly and the winds continuing to whip around so watch out for debris on the roads. temperatures mainly in the 40s and 50s. it looks like toward the afternoon we had some highs yesterday in the 60s and 70s. today we'll be lucky to get in the low 60s in parts of the bay area. so yeah, it is going to be cool and it will possibly be a little bit wet at times too. maybe a couple of snowflakes over the mountaintops. that's the latest from here. let's send it back to traffic with elizabeth. >> we are starting to heat up on the roads including in the south bay. look at our live camera now quite a bit different than just a half hour ago. northbound 101 this is near the trimble exit where we have our photographer standing by this morning showing you those brake lights in the commute direction. we had a fender-bender and stall on the incline. metering lights on extra e
